The Religious Movements Homepage @ the University of Virginia
An extremely useful site covering a large number of different religious movements, written by Professor Jeffrey Hadden’s graduate students. Content generally excellent, though the accuracy of grammar and spelling sometimes leave something to be desired!
The homepage of CESNUR, the Centre for Studies of New Religions, based in Turin. A very useful though sometimes controversial site.
INFORM (Information Network Focus on Religious Movements), based at the London School of Economics, is a small but very influential charity which compiles accurate, unbiased and up-to-date information on hundreds of different new religious movements. INFORM’s telephone helpline is +44 (0)20 7955 7654. Email inform@lse.ac.uk.
Apologetics Research Resources on Religious Cults, Sects, Movements, Doctrines, Etc.
This Christian site is based in Amsterdam. Its stance is different from that of THE NEW BELIEVERS and the other sites above, but its content is generally fair and accurate, and it is a very useful resource.
The final chapter of The New Believers is a major case study of the Worldwide Church of God, its history, and events following the death of its founder, Herbert W Armstrong, especially the creation of many schismatic offshoot Churches. That chapter, although still a valuable overview, was doomed to be outdated even before the book was published.
This is one of the very best websites about the Worldwide Church of God and its many offshoot Churches. As well as containing informative articles and links to many other relevant websites, it has a regularly updated news page and correspondence from a good balance of contributors, including both current and ex-members of Worldwide and some of the splinter groups. Highly recommended.
